Working Towards a Brighter Future

TRB Retirement

RIGHT NOW in the legislature there is a debate about providing teachers 2 years of TRB credit for every year they served during the pandemic. The NBFT is encouraging all teachers to email their elected officials to request these 2 years for 1 year TRB credits.  You can easily look up your legislator here:  https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/CGAFindleg.asp

To make this process easy for you, included below is a short blurb for you to copy and paste into an email.  It is encouraged that you add your own personal/professional stories, as it is more effective.  The legislative session is shorter this year!  PLEASE do this for you!! Sooner rather than later.

Dear Legislator,

Educators were on the front line of this pandemic right from the start. We shifted from in-person to virtual and back again several times. We were expected to persist through all of the challenges to keep the economy and society moving forward, often with risk to ourselves and our families. We learned new technology in a flash, then we learned how to implement hybrid experiences, now we are tasked with making up the difference in terms of learning loss and stunted social development. We did all of this with grace and a sense of duty. Now, we are faced with another potential wave of infections, just as the masks and precautions are fading.

With this in mind, I request that you support SB 396 so educators are recognized and rewarded for their service with 2 years of TRB credit for every year served during the pandemic.

I, for one, can attest that this was the toughest time in my professional career by far. [Insert a short personal account here].

Thank you for taking this into consideration and please remember the sacrifice that educators made during the pandemic and recognize our efforts by supporting SB 396.

Sincerely,
